The Associated Press has engaged PicRights, its recovery partners and attorneys (including the law firm Higbee & Associates in the US), to assist with our copyright protection efforts.
If you have been contacted by PicRights, the Higbee law firm, or one of our other attorneys on behalf of the AP, we ask that you resolve those matters directly with those entities.
PicRights Europe GMBH (“PicRights”), located at Unterdorfstrasse 12, 8808 Pfäffikon SZ, Switzerland (Registration: CHE-113.587.667), addresses the unauthorized use of AP photographs on the internet. PicRights operates through subsidiaries and affiliates in other countries, including PicRights International Inc., located in Toronto (Hudson Bay Centre, 2 Bloor St. East, Suite 3500, Toronto, ON M4W 1A8 Canada) for claims in North America.
Enforcing our copyrights against the unlicensed use of AP content online is a vital step in supporting our journalistic mission. When our content is used without authorization, it undermines our ability to support our news operations. Thousands of organizations across the world license AP content for legitimate use in their businesses, understanding the value inherent in this content and the investment that went into its production.
The AP is an independent, not-for-profit news cooperative dedicated to factual reporting. Since its founding in 1846, AP journalists have often put themselves at great personal risk to break news and cover the world’s biggest stories. Today we operate in 250 locations in 100 countries relaying breaking news, covering war and conflict and producing impactful enterprise and investigative reports.
Like any other content creator, we must protect our intellectual property rights against unauthorized exploitation. Protecting our journalists’ work from misuse and illegal use is of primary importance to the organization.
Again, if you have been contacted by PicRights, the Higbee law firm, or one of our other attorneys on behalf of the AP, we ask that you resolve those matters directly with those entities.
